Delhi News Live Updates, July 12: The water level in the Yamuna river rose to 207.99 m and is likely to increase further, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena said on Wednesday, following his visit to flood-affected areas. “But the situation will be better starting tomorrow,” Saxena said, adding that National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been deployed in all low-lying areas. In a response to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who, in a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, claimed that the water levels of Yamuna are rising due to high volumes of water being released by Haryana at Hathnikund barrage, Saxena said, “the volume of water being discharged from Haryana has been reduced. I would also like to clarify that Hathni Kund is a barrage, not a dam; water cannot be restricted or held at a barrage.”
Earlier in the day, CM Kejriwal urged residents of low-lying areas to vacate their homes immediately. “I appeal to the people who stay in the affected areas to vacate their homes with whatever essentials they need as soon as possible. We have made adequate arrangements for everything including food and toilets at camps,” Kejriwal said while addressing a press conference. “The government has put relief measures in place… I have just met all the District Magistrates, and instructed them to take over schools to convert them to relief camps and for the utilisation of toilets and other facilities,” the CM added.
